Abstract

A hypersensitization procedure for Eastman Kodak Spectroscopic Plate, Type I–Z, is described. The primary objective was to minimize or eliminate nonuniformities of plate fog. This procedure gave a mean fog density and density range of 0.28±0.01. The hypersensitizing agent is, typically, an ammonium hydroxide solution; an acetic acid mixture is used as a stop bath. Some effects of bath temperature, ammonium hydroxide concentration, and storage of hypersensitized plates are given. The ratio of the unhypersensitized I–Z plate exposure time to the hypersensitized I–Z plate exposure time gives an increase of sensitivity amounting to between 370 and 460.
