Abstract

An experiment was performed to determine whether there was a preferred location for the observer’s eye in a system employing both a wide field of view and a large-exit-pupil eyepiece. The special equipment constructed for the experiment is described. A chart is provided which summarizes the results of the study in graphic form. This depicts the eye rotation angles achieved before vignetting occurs for various locations of the eye with respect to the instrument pupil.
