Abstract

In absorbance and luminescence experiments the sample is often susceptible to photodecomposition in the presence of oxygen and, therefore, needs to be degassed and flowed through the sample excitation cell. One usually accomplishes degassing by bubbling an inert gas through the sample, while a peristaltic pump or syringe pump is normally used to propel the sample through the excitation cell. We have, however, developed a pumpless flow system which utilizes inert gas pressure to maintain a continuous sample flow while simultaneously deaerating the sample solution.
