Abstract

Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) has been demonstrated, during recent years, to be a very powerful technique for analytical determination of atomic or ionic species in inductively coupled plasma. LIF is characterized by very high sensitivity, with almost no cases of spectral interferences. Ionic fluorescence of uranium has been recently investigated, and a detection limit of 20 μg/L obtained. With the use of essentially optical diagnostics, this technique presents important advantages for analytical determination in a hostile medium and, more precisely, for analytical control of nuclear fuel reprocessing.
