A recent study of a commercial low-pressure quartz mercury lamp reported by Childs indicated that, with some modification, it might be suitable as a source for emulsion calibration as ordinarily done for the photometry of emission spectra. Childs measured the absolute emission of the Hg 2537 Å line and then determined the intensities of some 55 minor lines, from 5790 to 1942 Å, relative to 2537 Å. All his tests were made with an ac supply of about 300 V at 15 mA.
