Abstract

The acetoxy group, -O•COCH<sub>3</sub>, is shown to be an extremely weak electron contributor by examinations of its benzenoid spectra in solvents ranging from non-polar to very polar. Its displacing power is similar to, but even less than, that of an alkyl group.
