Abstract

The jet-controlled arc previously reported as a source for second spectra has been used to excite the third spectra of five metals. Lines from most of the highest known levels of these spectra have been observed with intensities in agreement with spark intensities. Arc spectrograms are superior to ordinary spark spectrograms for differentiation of lines of different ionization by line character.
