Self-healing dynamics and absolute temporal focusing of a truncated Airy pulse under higher-order phase modulations

Abstract

We investigate the dynamics of a temporal Airy pulse under different phase modulations inside a linear dispersive Si-based waveguide. Under third-order dispersion (TOD), the Airy pulse undergoes a temporal flipping and accelerates in the reverse direction. We show that cubic phase modulation can act as a healing effect by counterbalancing the temporal reversal, and it preserves the pulse shape. We also study the role of quadratic phase modulation (QPM) in controlling the pulse shape at the inversion point. A suitable QPM parameter can temporally compress an Airy pulse with absolute limit and leads to the formation of an amplified chirp-free Gaussian pulse useful for remote energy transfer. We provide adequate analytical and numerical simulations to understand the physical insights of the unique dynamics of a phase-modulated Airy pulse in a pure linear domain.
