Measuring amplifier noise with an interferometer

Abstract

How large must an input signal be to dominate the noise introduced by a quantum amplifier? As an answer to this question we present both experimental and theoretical results showing that the quantum noise added during amplification by stimulated Raman scattering can be dominated by an input signal with only a few photons per mode.
