Abstract

Multiphoton ionization of two-valence electron atomic systems, such as Ba, can occur generally in two ways, either by photoionizaton of the one electron followed by excitation of the ion (sequential production of Ba+ and Ba2+), or by simultaneous excitaton of the two electrons (direct production of Ba2+).
