Abstract

There have been many studies of sodium-dimer diffuse violet bands because of their excimer- type nature.1–2 As a preliminary step toward achieving a new tunable, high-power excimer laser in the violet, we report the observation of Na2 violet-band emission with electron-beam (e-beam) pumping. In addition, we also observed an e-beam-excited spectrum containing discrete spectral lines on the long- wavelength side of the violet band.
