Abstract

Coupled-cavity (or additive-pulse) mode-locked color center lasers have been demonstrated to be capable of direct generation of ~100-fsecs duration near-infrared optical pulses, but recent studies have shown that their pulse-to-pulse timing jitter (or phase noise) still requires some improvement.1 Whereas this jitter is of little relevance to pump-probe type experiments, electro-optic sampling systems require both low phase and amplitude noise source characteristics such that sample periods can be kept to a minimum.
