Abstract

We describe a new mechanism of generating relatively powerful and extremely short pulses of freely propagating THz radiation. After propagating 88 cm in free space, these pulses were measured to have a full-width-at-half-maximum pulsewidth of 370 fsec with no deconvolution. These are the shortest directly-measured, freely-propagating THz pulses in free space to date.
