Abstract

Clusters of the main group metals (Sn, Pb, Sb, Bi) and their alloys have been studied extensively in our laboratory over the last several years.1-3 These systems are interesting because the bonding is expected to involve primarily the valence p electrons. These cluster systems should, therefore, exhibit properties intermediate between those of transition metal4 and semiconductor5 cluster systems, just as they do in the corresponding solids. Previous studies have documented growth patterns in these systems detected by photoionization mass spectroscopy.1-3 In current studies, mass selected photodissociation is used to measure decomposition product channels in these systems.
