Abstract
The H2 molecule has recently been studied by a number of groups using resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization by multicolor narrowband tunable radiation. Early studies measured the yield of various ion species. Current studies monitor the ion fragments and analyze their kinetic energies. Our results show a tall in the kinetic energy distribution of H+ fragments with energies in the 9.8–12.5-eV range and an abundance of ~2% of the total yield. These ions were not observed in experiments using shorter laser pulses and time-of-flight detection systems.
