A Better Predictor for Waveguide Outcoupling by Surface Texturing or Roughness

Abstract

Instead of RMS surface roughness, a better predictor for estimating waveguide outcoupling, or scattering loss, due to surface texturing or random surface roughness is RMS slope. Supporting simulations are shown for periodic and random surfaces.
