Mini-Laser Heterodyne Radiometer for CO2 and CH4 Measurements: Data Analysis

Abstract

The Miniaturized Laser Heterodyne Radiometer (Mini-LHR), which measures both methane and carbon dioxide in the atmospheric column, has been under development at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center since 2009. LHR-CUBE (Laser Heterodyne Radiometer-CubeSat) will measure atmospheric methane (CH4) at 1653.7 nm from within a 6U (1U = 10 cm3) CubeSat spacecraft in an occultation (sun) viewing orbit. In both ground and flight versions of the instrument, sunlight passes through a portion of the atmosphere, undergoes absorption by the trace gas, and is then collected with collimation optics in the instrument. The received data is analyzed to determine concentrations of different layers of the atmosphere.
