Neural-Network-Enabled Multivariate Symbol Decision in a 100-Gb/s Complex Direct Modulation System

Abstract

We reveal a neural network can be exploited for multivariate symbol decision simply by feeding multiple signal features as its inputs. The concept is verified in a digital coherent receiver which detects dual-polarization 25-GBaud directly-modulated PAM-4 signals.
