Joint Optimization of Coding, Shaping and Clipping for Amplifier-Less Coherent Optical Systems

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate that performance of amplification-less coherent optical systems can be significantly improved by a joint optimization of FEC coding overhead, modulation order, shaping distribution and signal clipping, enabling power budget gains of >1 dB.
