Performance of Lasers with Excess Low-Frequency FM-Noise Profiles in Digital Coherent Optical Systems

Abstract

We show that for the same spectral linewidth, lasers with high FM-noise at low frequency outperform those with white FM-noise in a coherent system. Digital carrier-recovery has to be optimized based on laser FM-noise profile.
