Polarization dependent loss in optical fibers - does it help or ruin photon entanglement distribution?

Abstract

We experimentally investigate propagation of polarization-entangled photon pairs through two fibers with PDL. We compensate the effect of PDL in one fiber by properly aligning the second fiber’s aggregate PDL. A theory supports our observations.
