New single-polarization fiber

Abstract

Conventional polarization-maintaining fibers have two polarization modes.1 The crosstalk degrades2 with increasing fiber length due to random coupling. Of the several ways to reduce crosstalk for longer distance, the use of the single-polarization optical fibers is most attractive. Until now, several types3-5 of single-polarization fibers have been reported. However, single-polarization characteristics such as the curvature and length dependence on crosstalk are still uncertain.
