Abstract
Optical waveguide and circuit application opportunities continue to grow for telecom, datacom, sensors, and OE hybrid boards for data and clock signal distribution and EMI-free control circuits. Realization of these opportunities requires practical processes, product designs, and materials that meet the required operating stability and cost performance criteria. As a result, R&D efforts proliferate to develop low-cost manufacturable single-mode and/or multimode waveguide technology for passive and active components and circuits. Because of their recognized versatility and flexibility for processing, configuring. and formulating, polymeric materials are thought to offer considerable promise.
