Abstract
For high-speed systems operating at 1550 nm, laser chirping can cause a serious degradation in the system performance, as measured by the bit error rate. We report simulation results quantifying the chirping degradation as well as the influence of certain laser design and modulation parameters. Different methods of estimating the chirping penalty are compared.
