Abstract
A crucial problem facing development of multiple-processor computers is the bottleneck encountered in interconnecting processors and memory elements. An NX Noptical crossbar switch (N= 32) with >100 Mbit/s/channel capacity with <1-μs reconfiguration time would provide a solution to this problem. Optical crossbar switches provide asynchronous operation and broadcasting operation as a consequence of the 1 × N fanout of each input signal.1
