Abstract
Recently, there has been much interest in light sources for a frequency division multiplication (FDM) transmission system. The multielectrode DFB laser 1 Is one of the most promising devices for this use, because it is superior In terms of wavelength tunability, 1 narrow spectral linewidth,2 and FM response flatness.3 Furthermore, increasing the number of electrodes potentially improves the single-mode operationability. On the basis of the above aspects, we tried doubling the top electrode of each DFB laser arrayed on a chip. We report experiments of a four-channel multielectrode DFB laser array in the 1.5-µm wavelength region. This is the first demonstration of a wavelength-tunable single-frequency-laser array.
