Abstract

Distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB LDs) have attracted strong interests as light sources for long distance and high capacity optical fiber transmission systems. Among various DFB LD schemes, a phase shifted DFB LD has been considered a most ideal DFB LD from a view point of stable single longitudinal mode (SLM) operation due to a large gain difference between the main mode and the sub mode.
