Abstract
While continued improvements in performance of discrete components continues to be the principal focus of optoelectronic device research, for some time it has been recognized that the successful integration of both optical and electronic devices to achieve OEICs represents a means of achieving high performance at low cost for such applications as local loop distribution and optical interconnections.
