Active branching: a new concept for optical submarine systems

Abstract

Multibranch submarine systems will become a reality in the near future with the laying of TAT-8 and TPC-3. For this kind of system, the traffic partition is obtained by assignment of each fiber of the cable to a different link, and the capacity is shared at a ratio of 1:2. To provide a different partitioning ratio, a submarine system can be designed according to two configurations.
