Abstract

To lower the manufacturing cost of graded-index fibers, the development of high-rate deposition and large preform-making techniques is required. The VAD process is likely to be susceptible to high-rate deposition because the deposition process is independent of the sintering process and because the deposition efficiency increases as the preform size increases.1
