Abstract

Research and development efforts have concentrated on semiconductor light sources for optical fiber communication use as well as for optical data processing use. This paper reviews the latest results on high-performance semiconductor laser diodes (LDs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) with emphasis on efficiency, light output power, and modulation speed.
