Abstract

This new 135-Mbit/sec lightwave system for medium density application includes state-of-the-art advances in nearly every area of design. All optical components are contained in hermetically sealed hybrid enclosures and are temperature controlled using thermoelectric heat pumps. ECL semicustom gate arrays are used for high-speed digital design to improve performance while reducing power dissipation and cost. Lightwave system gain is also maximized by a patented decision-directed feedback equalizer that compensates tor bandwidth reduction in the optical fiber.
