Abstract

A large-core high-N.A. fiber has recently been developed1 and transferred to Western Electric's production shop which utilizes the MCVD process for preform fabrication (Fig. 1). This GeO2-P2O5-SiO2 graded-index multimode fiber has a 62.5-μm core, 125-μm clad diameter, and N.A. of 0.29 (Δn/n = 2.0%).
