Abstract

The activity associated with efforts of CATV operators to obtain major lucrative franchises has provoked the offering of services and capabilities that are sometimes complex technically, difficult to manage, and costly to build and operate. Enhanced services with standard systems (i.e., pay-per-view) demand that a more complex set-top converter be placed in the subscriber’s residence. This placement results in an avalanche of problems: maintenance (complex equipment in home environment); theft of equipment (capital loss); theft of pay signals (capital loss). The new Mini-Hub system minimizes these problems and enhances the operator’s control over his system.
