Abstract

Preservation of a polarization state in single-mode fibers is essential in coherent optical fiber transmission systems.1 Uniaxially stressed single-polarization fibers2 have been developed to maintain a linear polarization state. An alternative is to transmit circular polarization in a twisted single-mode fiber.3 This paper presents a long span twisted fiber having a high degree of polarization.
