Review of birefringent fibers: preparing characteristic properties

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Highly birefringent fibers are relatively immune to external perturbations and can therefore transmit a stable linear polarization state. Progress toward the development of polarization-maintaining fibers with very high levels of birefringence is reviewed.
