Abstract

Using a new single-frequency laser operating at 1.55 μm, we have transmitted through a 119 km unrepeatered section of fiber that has 2080 ps/nm of chromatic dispersion. There is no measurable dispersion penalty, showing that the laser operates in a single-longitudinal mode even modulated at 420 Mb/s.
