Abstract

In this paper we report on an optical receiver in a 250-Mbit/sec transmission system using Manchester (binary pulse position modulation) coding. For the low-noise amplifier at the front end, the transimpedance design approach was used since it offers wide dynamic range and no equalization is required. A schematic diagram of the receiver amplifier is shown in Fig. 1. Final circuit element parameters are optimized (using computer-aided design) to obtain a flat frequency response in the desired band.
