Abstract

The transmission bandwidth of normal single-mode fibers at the ultimately low-loss wavelength of 1.55 μm (Ref. 1) is determined by the dynamic spectral width of rapidly modulated semiconductor lasers. This dynamic spectral width of a rapidly modulated buried-heterostructure distributed- Bragg-reflector integrated-twin-guide (BH-DBR-ITG) laser was much narrower2 than that of conventional Fabry-Perot-type lasers.3 because there was no dynamic spectral broadening.4
