Abstract

SiO2/GeO2 core and SiO2/GeO2/P2O5 core fibers with SiO2/S2O5 cladding and SiO2/GeO2 core with SiO2/ GeO2/P2O5/F cladding fibers have been studied. The fiber was measured in situ before and after ~600-rad γ radiation from a flash x-ray machine or a 60Co source. Measurements have been made between 10 msec and ~1 h; the wavelength range is 500-1600 nm; the fibers were measured at +50, +23, −30, and −70°C. The fibers were all 50-μm core and 125-μm o.d. graded-index with an N.A.of ~0.21.
