Abstract
Optical isolation between the forward and back-scattered waves is essential in many optical circuits. The use of fibers as optical isolators in a fiber-optics circuit is advantageous. The present work reports on the use of single-mode fibers for optical isolation through the magnetooptic Faraday rotation of the polarization. The new method is practical from the standpoint of requiring only short lengths of fiber and low electrical power.
