System design for long-haul video transmission

Abstract

With progress in optical transmission techniques, repeaterless sections lonaer than 20 km in video transmission cable systems are now possible so that new application have been found: for example, traffic monitoring in large cities, surveillance of remote underground stations or railway tracks, military application. We report here on the system design. criteria that must be examined to strike the right balance between performance and economy. Three experimental systems developed in our laboratory will be presented.
