Abstract

Silicate glass fibers, among other optical fibers, have attracted major attention in recent years because of their transmission characteristics and reliability. Graded-index fibers fabricated by the MCVD method appear most promising for use as long-distance high-capacity transmission lines in public-communication systems because of low loss and wide bandwidth.
