Abstract

The current MCVD technique for the fabrication of optical fiber wave guides commonly employs a fused-quartz support tube in which the core and barrier layer-cladding are deposited. In some cases it would be desirable to use a tube of a composition other than SiO2 but such tubes are not usually commercially available.
