Abstract
There is growing interest in the investigation of radiation sensitivity of low-loss optical fibers, as optical communication systems may be subject to such an environment. The most promising spectral region for future optical fiber communication is the region near 1.3 μm, where glass optical fibers have the lowest loss and zero material dispersion. However, just a few measurements of radiation damage in optical fibers in that particular region have been reported.1,2
