Fatigue characteristics of chemical- vapor-deposited optical fibers having surface compression

Abstract

This paper describes techniques to produce surface compression in a low-loss optical fiber using chemical-vapor deposition technique. This type of fiber will be shown to have improved long-length strength characteristics.
