Relaxed Alignment Tolerances in Waveguide Coupling Using Single-Element Lenses Printed by Machine-Vision-Assisted Direct Laser Writing

Abstract

We use two-photon lithography to print single-element lenses on the facets of photonic chips. Our machine-vision-based approach avoids shadowing effects and achieves fiber-to-chip coupling efficiencies similar to lensed fibers but with greatly improved alignment tolerances.
