Abstract

A new generation of ultralight space telescopes can be enabled by multiple-order-diffraction-engineered-material (MODE) lenses, which are ultralightweight, transmissive, and can be assembled into very large apertures. In this paper, a diffraction-limited, 0.24-m diameter aperture, nine-segment MODE-lens telescope is designed for the astronomical R-band wavelength.
