Fabrication of a Compact Birefringent Photonic Crystal for High Efficiency Polarization Beam Splitting Using a Single-Material

Abstract

We have fabricated a birefringent photonic crystal using only TiO2. The device demonstrates high efficiency for splitting the polarization states of incident light. The fabrication is done using oblique angle deposition to create alternating high and low refractive index modulation in one dimension.
