Precision spectroscopy of the optical clock transition in laser cooled neutral Hg.

Abstract

We demonstrate cooling, trapping, and precision spectroscopy of the (1S0- 3P0) “clock” transition of neutral Hg. A novel room temperature fiber based amplifier system for the cooling laser light is also demonstrated.
